I hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving!

It’s the day after Thanksgiving and I can just imagine everyone’s refrigerators are chocked full of leftovers.  Today you’ll be eyeing the leftover desserts, the turkey, the potatoes and all the other goodies.  Tomorrow, you’ll look for something else to eat, but your leftovers will still have the final say in your refrigerator, because you can’t find anything else among all your leftovers.

Sunday, you’ll be weighing yourself wondering if all the food is showing up on your hips yet.  You’ll go to get something to eat, and you’ll wish all the turkey was gone.  The desserts are probably already gone, and that’s why you wouldn’t open your eyes to look at the scales when you stepped on them.

Well, forget about how much food you ate this week and forget about the number on your scales.  Get your mind back on Georgia and the bloggers who bring you good content.

Don’t forget, the 24th Edition of Georgia On My Mind Carnival will be December 7th, and will be hosted by Drifting Through The Grift.  Be sure to send your submissions (permalinks) to gamind@mail.com or use the handy submission form.

For more information, visit the Carnival for Georgia Bloggers page, or check out their home page at Georgia On My Mind.

This was my first time putting together a carnival and I sought the help from archives of other carnivals.  Such carnivals I got ideas and links from included: Georgia On My Mind, Blog For Democracy & Radical Georgia Moderate.

…and now, on to this edition of Georgia bloggers!

Art, Music & Dance…

The Wren’s Nest outdid themselves on the talent category with this post!  They had “The National Association of Black Storytellers, Wren’s Nest Style” to talk about.  This post is filled with great images of multi-talented people.  They had storytelling, art and music.  Check out the drums and the thumb piano!   They even have a video so you can watch the steel band and hear the ambience of the music.

Blogging, Community & Events…

turkeytrot Susan Tidwell from the Patchwork Reflections blog has a nice post titled “Turkey Trot“.  Susan uses blogs to stay connected.  She’s able to avoid the typical office politics since she works from home.

This posts has beautiful fall colors and turkeys, and makes a nice comparison of blogging with the turkey trot.

Who has received the “Community Blogger Award”?  Go take a look at this post and be sure to leave a comment for the recipient, whom we all know.

Sherry from the “So, What’s Next?!?” blog and from the “What a Concept!” blog, wants everyone to know about Atlanta.net. They have launched their online community to provide residents and visitors an insider’s peak in all the activities and happenings. The launch has been quiet while they work diligently to build their online community and connect with other bloggers. Stop in, and leave a comment, or add you thoughts to the forum.

~~~~~~~
Did you know Georgia Public Broadcasting has a blog?  They do.  You can get Georgia related information and events there.
Business & Entrepreneurship…
Sandi Karchmer Solow of “Marketing Through the Clutter” has a news flash for you.  She made a purchase on Zappos.com and that purchase showed up on her Facebook profile.  What’s up with that?  She asks the same thing in her post; “News Flash: I Bought Shoes!“  She says:
Online shopping might be relevant this time of year and I had an unusual experience using Zappos.com while logged in to Facebook.com.  Something people might want to be aware of this time of year – or anytime, really.
~~~~~~~

Sandy of “Marketing Through the Clutter” says the saga concerning Zappos.com continues in her post titled; “Beacon: A signal of my displeasure“.

Most people hate change, right?  We get in the familiar routines we create for ourselves, but what are we missing when we don’t learn something new?  Get some help from this article; ”How Often Do You Change?” posted at Miami Phillips - Being Happy In Biz and in Life.   “It has been, and continues to be, fascinating, challenging and invigorating to expand into a new field. Marketing on the internet is huge business and will continue to grow exponentially into the future.”

Education…

Were you ever caught passing notes in school?  C’mon, be honest!  Well, I read about the kind of note you can pass in school, and you want the teacher to catch you passing it.  Seriously!  The Elementary Historyteacher asked her students to write notes to her.  She writes about thirteen such notes that the students told her they liked or didn’t like about the class. They also gave her suggestions. Sounds like she gives a whole new meaning to “We The People” and gives her students a voice.

Financial…

wiseinvesting Check out the book review in this blog post “Investing is boring. Well, It should be!” presented by Everything Finance.   This blog takes a look at  “Wise Investing Made Simple: Larry Swidroe’s Tales To Enrich Your Future”  This book gives the following assessment:

“You are not supposed to have fun with a serious thing like investing for your future goals. Also, trying to beat the market is a really futile. All you need to do is have a well diversified portfolio of index funds and leave it.”

As a person who is just getting starting out learning about investing, I’ll be checking out this blog myself.

~~~~~~~
Everything Finance also presents “Why Passive Investing beats Active Investing” which gives their best definition of Passive Investing, and tells why you shouldn’t take risks with earmarked funding.
Food, Beverage & Cooking…
imnothannah Heather wrote A Sense of the Sacred*, in honor of her mom, who was made to feel bad because she loved cooking the holiday meal.
Heather is author of the I’m Not Hannah blog.
Don’t forget to check out Heather’s other posts too! She has a catchy tag line for her blog - “The world’s most imperfect mother spouts off.”
~~~~~~~

Where can you find fondue, crocodiles, pirate ships and jazz?  Well, according to the Savannah Red blog; you can find them at “Dante’s Down The Hatch”.  In this entertaining review, titled; “Dante’s Down The Hatch: Fondue, Crocodiles, & a Russian Call Girl“, the author gives an excellent review of the food, entertainment, setting and cost.  It’s mixed with a touch of personal conversation and the review is done so well, it makes you feel like you’re sitting at the dinner table with them.

~~~~~~~
Of Eagles and Dawgs is a sports blog, so why is it listed under the food category?  Well, because they have a recipe that looks yummy, if you’re a fan of Zaxby’s dipping sauce.  They say the recipe is about “half-right” according to the Co-founder of Zaxby’s, Tony Townley.   Mix up a batch of the sauce from here, “Zaxby’s Chicken Fingers Dipping Sauce (Zax Sauce)“, and see for yourself.  Don’t forget to check out the rest of this blog too.  It has a uniqueness to it because it’s a tale of life in a house divided by college allegiances.
Health & Fitness…
I was looking for Georgia bloggers to shout out to for this edition of the Carnival for the Health & Fitness category, and I found out Dave, from “Running Trails in Atlanta” did a shout out looking for runners and announced it in his post, “Attention Georgia/Southern Bloggers“.  So, if you’re a runner, get in touch with Dave.
~~~~~~~

What’s Going On?  Well, according to Wilson Smith, a lawyer and host of the “What’s Goin’ On” blog, the Jekyll Island issue is heating up.  He posts in “The Jekyll Island Saga is Taken Up a Notch!” about the latest on this issue, including the lawsuit that was filed November 15th in the Fulton Superior Court.

Literature & Book Reviews…

wellbehavedwomen John brings us Notes: A Lecture by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich posted at Grasping for the Wind. These are John’s notes from a lecture given by Pulitzer prize winning author Laurel Thatcher Ulrich on September 19, 2007. This feisty gray haired lady presented a fascinating case for continued work in understanding the history of women, and in breaking down stereotypes. Phrases in quotes are direct quotes from the lecture.

With a title like “Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History” we can be sure women will be heading over to John’s blog to find out the story behind this!

northern_thunder_jacket St.John Flynn presents Introducing Will Parker posted at Cover To Cover.

This is a book review of “A Northern Thunder”, a new techno/military thriller by Columbus attorney and former USMC Reserves colonel Andy Harp.

Flynn has this to say about the author: “Now I don’t know much about military service, but I can tell that Harp’s time in the USMCR was action-packed and extraordinary. His bio reads like that of an action hero such as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan or Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne.”

Photography…

What is Danny Gilleland focusing on? Getting that perfect image into his camera, that’s what.  He takes wonderful pictures and posts them on his blog.  He also gives photography tips and he works for the Macon Telegraph.  Take a look at his blog, “Almost In Focus“, to get ideas on how to improve your photography skills, or just stop by and enjoy his work!

Politics…

James from The Other Athens, attended the presentation of State Representative and House Majority Whip Barry Fleming that was made on Monday evening to the Clarke County Republican Committee concerning the GREAT Plan (a.k.a the ”Glenn tax”).  In his post “Fleming on Richardson II” he gives a review of the presentation.

James also takes a look at the Unified Government’s watering ban in his post “I Like Bob Smith (and this is why)” and he says the fine folks over at the Ludwig von Mises Institute are publishing an article by him entitled “Raymond Aron and the Intellectuals

Religion…

religionbackBill Reichart, Pastor of “Doing Life Together” at Big Creek Church, and author of the Provocative Church blog, presents: “Jesus called…He wants His religion back

“Are we creating a Christian sub-culture, a ghetto in fact, in which we aren’t allowing ourselves to have any measurable impact on people and our culture?”

~~~~~~~
A week ago Thursday, I had the unexpected privilege to see what happens when religious boundaries are broken, and people of different faiths unite together to feed the poor and homeless in downtown Macon.  I found a blog by Brian Bowen, who is a Pastor at Harvest Cathedral, and learn he and others meet on Poplar Street, near First Street, at 7:00 PM every Thursday to feed the homeless.  It was a blessing to see so many people get a meal.  They also had Bible study, fellowship and music for those that wanted to stay. Feel free to contact Brian at his blog to get more information if you would like to be involved in this incredible way of helping the community.
Sports…
James, from The Other Athens, says it’s time for the weekly football update in his post, “The Mighty Mighty Indians“.
Technology…
Jack Clay with the Law Office of Jack Clay, LLC, author of the “Georgia Law Blog” is currently writing a multi-part post about technology in a small law firm.  He begins here with “Part 1: Small Law Firm Technology I Use In My Douglas County, GA Personal Injury & Workers’ Compensation Practice“  Here also is: Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5 and at the time of this writing, he was up to Part 6.  These posts discuss everything from the simple network system they use, to time tracking, to anti-virus, to document management.
